After having to stop working in the first week of June due to health issues, I chose not to look for work right away and instead focus on making sure the medical problems were in check. (They are, thank God!) Last week it became time to make a concerted effort regarding work. I decided to look into a school to take courses for medical billing & coding. While going over the program, it became clear that this type of work would not be for me, considering my love of the spoken word. A little timeline of events that led to my going to the school to begin with follows:
It all happened seamlessly, and began on Labor Day weekend. I'd been thinking that it was time to get on the job hunt with extra effort once the weekend was over. I woke up Saturday morning and the very first though in my head was "call The Salter School". Second thought? My sister Karen (who moved on from this life two years ago this coming Sept 14) had just told me that. I smiled, thought about it for less than two minutes, and went to the school's web site to get a little info and the number. I left a message indicating my interest and asked to be called after the weekend.
I spoke to someone from the school on Tuesday and agreed to come in on Wednesday to learn more about the program. When I arrived on Wednesday, I was greeted by a different person, as the individual I was to meet with was out that day. As we were about to go down the hall, she introduced me to the director of the school and he agreed to meet with me, as another woman also interested in the school had just arrived for her appointment. (Still with me?!)
There I am, sitting in the office of the person who would be hiring me if I were there to apply for a job, but I was looking into the school! As I told him I didn't think medical billing & coding would be for me and my reasons, he told me they were looking to hire an administrative assistant and that I seemed to be a good fit for that position if I were interested. I emailed my resume on Thursday, spoke to them briefly on Friday, came in this morning and was hired! As I told Joe, my new boss beginning two weeks from today, there were too many coincidences, or as I prefer to call them, "God-incidences". He agreed, and I am very psyched to begin. It seems like a very pleasant, busy, exciting place. Woo hoo!
